Scarlett's all time favorite thing to do is to watch movies on her DVD players. She actually owns two DVD players and an I Pad. She has over 100 movies. She likes all of them but defiantly has her favorites. Her favorites are Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Ice Age. How do I know they are her favorites? Her eyes light up with excitement when I put them on, her heart rate lowers and she doesn't fuss. She focuses all of her attention on the screen and blocks everything out around her out. She is one with the movie...
I've always dreamed of taking her to the movies. It's something that I've always wanted to do with her. It's something that I knew she would enjoy. I've dreamed about wheeling her into the movies and watching her happy expressions. It's always been just a dream because the reality was that I couldn't just take her into a movie. There were too many variables and risks involved. Where would she sit? How would we "control" the germ factor? How would we care for her in the dark? Would we be able to see her face and monitors in dark? Would we be able to hear her over the sound system? Would we disturb the other "movie-goers?" How would I run her loud machines and not get shhhhhhhh'ed at? What if she had a meltdown and had trouble breathing? It just seemed too difficult so I thought I would keep dreaming.
When I heard that
Madagascar 3 Europe's Most Wanted was out in the theaters I started dreaming again about how fun it would be to take Scarlett to the movies. I decided to contact a local theater (
Kenwood Theater) and ask if we could rent out a theater. I didn't know how much those kinds of things would cost but I thought I could just ask. I was actually really scared to ask but Scarlett made me brave. I didn't know what they would say. I don't ever want to put people out or make them feel uncomfortable. When they heard about our situation and Scarlett's upcoming THIRD BIRTHDAY they offered to give Scarlett a private screening of
Madagascar 3 Europe's Most Wanted at no cost. Can you believe it? How kind and generous of them. It was like it was no big deal to them. They wanted to do something special for our little girl and they did! Thank you Kenwood Theater for making a dream come true!

She likes looking out of those yellow Birthday glasses. So fun! |
|
Look at that hair! Whoa! We are about to wheel Scarlett out of the van. |
When we arrived at The Kenwood Theater the manager presented Scarlett with her very own Madagascar poster. We were the only people in the entire theater/building. They opened up early just for us! We felt like royalty. It was actually the general managers day off and she came into work just for us!

Scarlett's Private Screening was at 9:30 am. This was the sign for the next screening. |
The theater was perfect. It was just like how I pictured it my dream. Scarlett was front and center.

Scarlett's Best Friends |
This was the PERFECT way to celebrate Scarlett's THIRD BIRTHDAY. She got to celebrate it with her loved ones and her best friends (Alex, Gloria, Melman, King Julian, Marty, The Penguins, Maurice, and Mort). She had so much fun on her special day. Her eyes were big with excitement during the entire movie. She was one HAPPY THREE-YEAR-OLD! Thank you Kenwood Theater for making this so special for us.
